Listener Stories

from John...

I met my first wife in high school, my first love and we grew together and married after she finished college. A few years later, she became very ill, and passed away soon after. I know this would ... moreshake the faith of most people, and for a while it did mine, but I knew God NEVER takes away without giving back more in return. Before she passed, my wife had spoken with her boss and had arranged a job for me, as I was still in school. I took the job, as it helped me to stay connected to those who were special to my wife, and as a way to fill my days outside of school. While working one day, I happened to go into the hallway adjoining my workspace and I saw a young lady approaching, whom I had never seen before. A small voice said to me, "...this is the woman you will marry..."

Now I don't tend to believe these things, but for some reason I spoke to her as she passed. I saw her again a few weeks later and after talking for a bit, I asked her to lunch. We started to date after talking for a month or so, and about a year later we married. We have now been married almost 15 years. She has shown me a strength in times of trial, and a love I thought I had lost. She has also given me a beautiful daughter.

One day my daughter asked me if I wished my first wife was still alive, and I think my answer shocked her. I said "No...she suffered quite a bit..." I also told her what I wrote to you. "God never takes away without giving more in return. Although God chose to take my first wife, He had given me you and mommy in return, and I couldn't imagine my life without you two..." I know one day soon, God will return and I will see all those loved ones who have gone before me. So I know that although we feel the loss today, it is nothing compared to the gifts to come.

Thank you for allowing me to share this with you.
